The Sustainable Trails Initiative (STI) is a multi-stage commitment by the Friends of the Wissahickon to help make the 50 miles of natural surface National Recreation Trails in the Wissahickon Valley Park an environmentally and socially sustainable system that works for everybody. In November 2009, work began on the Houston Meadow Reclamation Project. This project is aimed at enlarging, enhancing and maintaining Houston Meadow, which provides a unique and important habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife.. The meadow, previously too fragile of an area for heavy usage, will soon be open to mountain bikers. Click here for a pdf with more details.

In Summer of 2010, the Cathedral Run Stormwater Runoff Project begins. This project proposes to divert storm flow from a 48-inch storm sewer from its current outfall location and move it upstream along Cathedral

- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District (USACE) and the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) are conducting a feasibility study for the Wissahickon Creek in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. A public meeting to discuss the Wissahickon Creek Feasability Study took place in January 2010. USACE & PWD will head the project. For further information follow this link.
