Walt Sasse

Walt Sasse has been riding, teaching & training horses for over 50 years. He was born in the Germantown area of Philadelphia. A pony ride at the age of five was the beginning of a life long relationship with horses. As a teenager he rode the beautiful trails of the Wissahickon Valley where he learned to appreciate the importance of horses, horsemanship, the city and it's parks.
Walt served in the United States army for 2 years, where he was stationed in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall. Upon returning, there was news that the Philadelphia Mounted Police that had been disbanded in 1952 was being renewed. Walt was among the first to be accepted into the program for Philadelphia's Finest to be serving the city on horseback. He discovered that serving the city while utilizing his horsemanship skills was a lifestyle he was well suited for. The city offered Walt the position of Head Trainer for the Philadelphia Mounted Police Academy, but he declined the offer, choosing to keep his feet in the stirrups, instead of on the ground. Before retiring after 18 years of mounted service (and 20 years of total service), he rode with the award winning Philadelphia Mounted Show & Drill Team at a National Level in Washington, DC, Harrisburg and Radnor, PA, as well as the Philadelphia Horse Show and at the well-known Devon Horse Show & Fairgrounds.
There aren't many things Walt enjoys more than sharing his knowledge of horses and riding with people of all ages.
